Abstract
In Islam alimony is one of the wife’s rights for which the husband is responsible. In this article the wife’s alimony in Iranian law and its compliance with Imami jurisprudence and also a comparison of the Iranian system of receiving alimony with the wage systems of woman in both Britain and America are taken into consideration. While the law must be responsive to new developments and disputes arising from the changes in family life, an analysis of the laws of various countries can help the legislator in the elimination of possible drawbacks in the existing law to administer justice within the society. This study is therefore significant in that it clarifies common law approaches on this issue. In Iranian law a wife’s alimony, despite the many advantages that it has compared to common law, in some ways could witness growing changes.
